Clear and Convincing Writing for Lawyers
What To Expect
Attorneys write more today than ever before. Emails, memos, and briefs are just a few of the documents people must write on a regular basis. How do you write quickly AND clearly while also striking the right tone? This interactive 90-minute session will focus on two main areas:
1. Write Clearly
Attorneys will learn how to energize their writing by using active verbs. They’ll learn to write directly and avoid weak verbs. They will reduce the frustration and confusion readers sometimes feel when trying to understand the bottom line. Attorneys will also learn how to shorten their documents and to write with greater impact. They’ll learn to select simple words, avoid confusing sentence structures, and eliminate unnecessary words.
2. Write Convincingly
Attorneys will increase their influence, and save time, by focusing on the needs of their audience. This will help them focus on the correct type of information and level of detail to include in their writing. Attorneys will increase their impact when they clarify their message and place it up front in their written communications. They will apply their new skills to privately edit a recent email they sent to a client or colleague.
This event is open to Legal Aid employees.
